In 1978, Jackson County Health Care Board, doing business as Jackson County Rural Health Project, opened its first Community Health Center in the far Northeast corner of Alabama, along the state’s borders with Tennessee and Georgia, in Flat Rock, Alabama. The establishment of the new health center provided accessible health care to a rural community in desperate need of medical services. Additional sites followed in Jackson County with the opening of the Paint Rock Valley Primary Health Center, Section Primary Health Center and Bryant Primary Health Center.

The early 1990’s ushered in the opening of a Before Hours/After Hours Clinic in Scottsboro, Alabama. Later the name was changed to the Scottsboro Primary Health Center.

In 2002, the organization had an opportunity to open a rural health clinic in Fyffe, Alabama located in DeKalb County. Prior to expanding into a neighboring county, Jackson County Rural Health Project changed the name of the organization to Northeast Alabama Health Services, Inc. to encompass both Jackson and DeKalb County.

Throughout the years of changes and transitions, Northeast Alabama has established seven Community Health Centers in multiple rural communities within our service area. Each of the clinics names incorporate the city’s name in conjunction with Northeast Alabama Health Services, Inc. in an effort to reflect our commitment to the community which we serve as well as a networking health care system that spans multiple regions throughout northeast Alabama. Northeast Alabama Health Services, Inc. boasts of beautiful state of the art facilities complete with electronic health records, digital signs at several clinics, trained competent staff and a warm and inviting environment where each and every patient’s medical needs can be met. Our organization has programs in place that assist patients with obtaining prescriptions, a reduced payment fee based on income and various preventative health options. We also accept Medicaid and most private insurances.

The organization is governed by a Board of Directors that share in the mission and vision. They are leaders in their respective communities and are users of the health centers. They are volunteers that successfully guide the organization through oversight of federal regulations.

The history of Northeast Alabama Health Services Inc. began with a desire to provide accessible and affordable medical services to individuals who otherwise would not have access to healthcare in any form. Many things have changed since its inception; however the one constant that remains is our commitment to ensuring that the care, compassion and respect of the people we serve is maintained at the highest level.
